Visual Information Specialist

Duties

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

  • Fort Smith National Historic Site (FOSM)-Fort Smith, AR-TERM-NTE: 4 years. Part-Time 16 hours per week. Salary Range - $22.37 - $29.09 per hour.

    The major duties of this position are included to the following:
  • Work with Tribal partners, under direction of management, and using nationally established guidelines and industry standards to support content management and development of web pages, social media sites and apps.
  • Work with Tribal partners, under direction of management, and using nationally established guidelines and industry standards to assist in development of exhibits as well as drafting scope of work statements for exhibit plans.
  • Work with Tribal partners, under direction of management, and using nationally established guidelines and industry standards to assist in developing products that satisfy park-level, network level and NPS goals and objectives for interpreting park resources.
  • Work with Tribal partners, under direction of management, and using nationally established guidelines and industry standards to provide standardized visual and audio production services to park divisions.

Fort Smith National Historic Site- AREA INFORMATION
Fort Smith National Historic Site is situated in Sebastian County in northwestern Arkansas. Winters are generally mild with average low temperatures around 35 degrees. Occasional fronts may cause extremes in low temperatures with heavy precipitation. Summers are generally hot and humid with average highs in the 90-degree range. Fall and spring are comparable transition seasons with very comfortable temperatures and abundant precipitation. Qualifications


All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/05/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to the following: Experience directing, filming, editing, and producing videos for a public audience that convey intended messages; Developing and producing visual products for print and/or web pages using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere); Participate as a team member on all visual media projects and events. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education with major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of specialized experience as described above and education as described above. When combined equals 100% of the total requirement. You must include transcript.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
