Job Description

To support that challenge, the Syngenta Flowers team is currently seeking a Harvest Operations Intern to join our team in Alva, FL. You will lead Operations Department activities such as propagation and harvest, database and inventory management, URC Quality Control, and process improvement initiatives to solve quality and efficiency challenges critical to the business. You will apply your academic background in an industry setting and gain experience managing all stages of URC production from propagation to harvest.

Duration:
Jan 2024-August/September 2024

Accountabilities:

  • Organize and lead the harvest and post-harvest processes and URC handling.
  • Generate ideas and conduct pilot studies to improve processes.
  • Apply business management skills in risk mitigation and resource allocation.
  • Propagation planning of Stock Layout and Label Processing.
  • Manage Crop Discarding: Discards and reductions, inventory database updates.
  • Processing Material Inventory and order requisitions.
  • You will also have an opportunity to work cross-functionally with all Department leaders, enhancing your professional development and network.
  • Follow all Company safety procedures and recommendations and promote environmentally sustainable solutions.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Biology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Crop Protection, Business, Agriculture, Computer Science, or other relevant subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US

Preferred Requirements:

  • Communication-The ability to communicate information well (both written and spoken) is highly desired
  • Detail Oriented-All procedures and policies must be understood and followed
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking
  • Autonomous-An independent individual who is self-motivating and needs little supervision
  • Previous internship and/or co-op experience related to Agriculture is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work outdoors in a hot and humid environment.
  • Confidence- Not afraid to ask bold questions and be curious
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the role
