Electrical Engineer

BIOFerm™, a renewable energy company, is currently looking for an Electrical Engineer. BIOFerm™ provides turnkey anaerobic digestion and gas upgrading facilities. Committed to sustainable and economical organic waste diversion, BIOFerm™’s digester technology harnesses biogas from fermenting organics—food waste, manure, biosolids, etc.—and converts it into valuable green energy, vehicle fuel, heat and organic products. Its gas upgrading systems enable biogas producers to profitably upgrade biogas to renewable natural gas (RNG).

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare project specification of power distribution (key essential function) and control (ability to learn) panels using Siemens PLCs (understand of Siemens is a plus but not required) and related components
  • Strong background in power distribution system, hardware and equipment
  • Electrical equipment sizing and specifications support
  • Evaluate and summarize engineering information for proposals, documentation or presentations
  • Solicit and review bids and purchase electrical and controls equipment for projects.
  • Review vendor documents and FAT, oversee and evaluate work performed by subcontractors to ensure compliance with engineering drawings
  • Work with other departments, mechanical and process teams
  • Biogas plant commissioning onsite and troubleshooting familiarity or willingness to learn
  • Attend construction meetings, make periodic site observation visits
  • Assist operations in troubleshooting instrument/electrical problems, both on-site and through remote log-in
  • Understand and willingness to learn how to design and implement process control strategies, PLC programming, Profibus and Ethernet IP networking, HMI programming
  • Prepare and update punch lists as required for site execution services
  • Ability to work within a construction site, lift heavy equipment and follow OSHA site safety standards
  • Communicate with project team and coordinate work, following direction from execution team
  • Maintain P&I's loop sheets, electrical drawings, safety interlock test procedures and other essential E&I documentations so they are current and complete.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and other project correspondences
  • Additional tasks as needed

Competencies/Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with strong understanding of power systems
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in gas processing, biochemical, petrochemical, or solar industries
  • Thorough knowledge of process theory and E&I drawings including electrical schematics, logic diagrams and P&I diagrams.
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic process instrumentation selection/specification, calibration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Ladder Logic, Function Block, and SCADA programming within MS SQL, RSLogix (5500 & 5000), Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, WinCC, STEP 7, and TIA Portal
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to multitask, for many projects, and cross department support.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • A valid US passport or other document valid for international travel
  • Authorization to work for any company in the United States. Must not require sponsorship, or continued sponsorship to work for any company in the United States

Preferred:

  • Electrical Engineer License, PE, or the ability to obtain a PE license within the state or others if needed
  • Experience with power distribution and subsystems, medium to low power systems
  • Experience in technical execution on both PRE-FEED/FEED and EPC projects in the chemical and petrochemical industries
  • Understanding and proficiency with Ethernet IP, Profibus, and other industrial communications protocols
  • Competent with design, implementation, and troubleshooting of 24VDC control voltage, 4-20 mA, HART, as well as 120VAC and 480VAC voltage systems, including associated safety considerations
  • Experienced with various software programs including but not limited to AutoCAD Electrical, Microsoft Office. Knowledge of EPLAN is a plus.
  • Drive to grow and advance within the company to lead and manage electrical team
