Job Description And Duties

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is recruiting for one limited term/full-time Financial Institutions Examiner (FIE) position, which may be extended up to 24 months or possibly become permanent.

This position reports directly to the Financial Institutions Manager (FIM), however may receive additional instructions from the Senior Financial Institutions Examiner (SFIE). The FIE is trained to assume increasing responsibility in the examination of licensees and affiliates of money transmitters, including issuers of payment instruments (money orders), travelers checks, and stored value that are regulated the department.

The incumbent will progress through the ranges of the FIE class, and the work will increase in complexity as more experience is gained. An incumbent in Range A will receive on-the-job training to perform duties, an incumbent in Range B will perform the same tasks with work of average complexity, and an incumbent in Range C will perform all the same tasks at the journey level. 

The position is located in the Money Transmitters Division at our San Francisco office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with a specialization in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or a related business/management specialization. OR

Completion of the equivalent of 16 semester hours of professional accounting courses given by a collegiate-grade residence institution, including courses in elementary and advanced or intermediate accounting, auditing, and cost accounting; and three semester hours of business law.
