Jockey Career Closet Intern

 

Title: Jockey Career Closet Intern 

Location: UW Parkside Advising and Career Center (Student Success and Learning Commons) 

Description: The Jockey Career Closet Intern is responsible for the management and promotion of the Jockey Career Closet. The Intern will meet with students to help them select clothes from the Career Closet, organize clothing donations, and maintain accurate records of the inventory. The Intern will also help plan and facilitate the annual Jockey Career Closet Fashion Show, including managing the budget, securing volunteers, and planning activities for the event. The Intern will be responsible for advertising and promoting the Career Closet throughout the academic year through social media and other methods. The Intern may also be periodically asked to run the front desk, answer phone calls, or help students make appointments. 

High Impact Statement: By incorporating classroom learning into hands-on work experience as well as receiving supervision and coaching, students gain necessary tools to grow and contribute as professionals. 

Duties: 

Career & Self-Development 

  • Engage in professional development through opportunities like the Elevate Professional Development Series or other events offered throughout the academic year

Communication 

  • Educate the campus community about the Career Closet through written, verbal, and digital communication methods
  • Promote the Career Closet through digital/social media and at in-person events
  • Help students make appointments for the Career Closet by phone, email, or in-person
  • Engage with potential donors to secure additional pieces for the Career Closet

Critical Thinking 

  • Manage and organize the Career Closet in a logical, efficient manner that will improve access and increase campus visibility

Equity & Inclusion 

  • Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and discretion with all individuals who utilize the Career Closet
  • Demonstrate respect and learn from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, sexual orientations and religions in all interactions with students, staff, and faculty

Leadership 

  • Serve as an ambassador for students by helping them to select pieces from the Career Closet and build their professional wardrobe

Professionalism 

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and work ethic as part of the professional staff in the Advising & Career Center
  • Work responsibly both independently and as part of the team

Teamwork 

  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration skills with other staff in The Commons

Technology 

  • Effectively utilize Microsoft products, including Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel as needed to promote and manage the Career Closet

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365, such as Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse pool of students, faculty/staff, and community members
  • Must be willing to participate in Safe Zone trainings and FERPA training
  • Ability to work 10-15 hours/week during the academic year (flexible with class schedule)

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Student must be an undergraduate or graduate student attending the University of Wisconsin – Parkside
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Must be able to collaborate with other staff members, as well as working independently
  • Strong customer service orientation: able to understand good judgement
  • Must have a professional demeanor
  • Dependable and punctual
