Overview:

The internship will result in the creation of park-accessible GIS datasets, which will contain new and existing digital spatial data for park planning purposes, and cultural resource and natural resource management within Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Moccasin Bend National Archeological District (CHCH/MOBE).

Responsibilities:

This project will help streamline the regulatory review process by, 1) creating new spatial data; and 2) assembling existing spatial data to locate resources previously documented resources.  Existing spatial data may be found in existing baseline documentation, as well as smaller projects in park records/archives. The intern will be expected to examine past datasets from previous projects, as well as collect new spatial data to support park operations. Access to this data will reduce regulatory response times and mitigation efforts, as well as provide a more coordinated approach to resource management.

Qualifications:

Consideration will be given to applicants that have: Prior GIS experience, the ability to demonstrate the use of the current suite of ESRI GIS Software and extensions and the ability to develop and analyze spatial information with GIS. Candidate should possess practical knowledge of appropriate geodatabase design principles and have knowledge of geographic projection datums and geospatial data. Candidate should be currently pursuing or have obtained a GIS degree/certificate and be familiar with GIS modernization. The position requires the ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as participate effectively in collaborative efforts. Applicants who possess these skills and who are pursuing or have obtained a degree/certificate in fields related to the above qualifications will be given first consideration.
