Environmental Professional
We are seeking a mid-level environmental professional to provide on-site comprehensive engineering and administrative technical support at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA, under the installation restoration program (IRP).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, investigation and design for handling and control of hazardous and toxic wastes, contaminated soil/sediment, surface water/groundwater remediation, structural demolition and debris removal, and site remediation/restoration.
- Frequent communication and interaction with base personnel is required in the management of the IRP.
- Provide technical input and expertise to various activities through the remedial investigation/ feasibility stage, including scopes of work, work plans, site characterization, risk analysis and development of alternative treatment methods.
- Assist the installation with the development of draft environmental cleanup guidance, goals, and methodsand with the coordination of cleanup efforts with representatives of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Provide detailed technical reviews of contractor deliverables (e.g., work plans, data, reports, data, compliance with scope of work and electronic standards).
- Conduct investigation of local spill sites, develop sampling and analysis plan, collects environmental media samples, data evaluation and develop summary report.
- Assist in preparation of an annual Installation Action Plan (IAP).
- Assist in monitoring the technical progress of each Restoration Program site or initiative at the installation and in developing future restoration project justification.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and customers to assure all work is conducted in accordance with current laws and regulations.
- Prepare Cost-to-Complete estimate documentation (estimated cost for future cleanup, closure and/or disposal of environmental contamination at past and present sites through site closure).
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in geology, environmental science/engineering, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of environmental experience OR a Master’s Degree with one (1) year of experience.
- Knowledge of CERCLA and RCRA cleanup processes. Past performance of work in support of CERCLA/RCRA environmental cleanup actions is desired, including field work, managing cleanup projects, or overseeing environmental remediation activities, specifically at federal facilities.
- Knowledge of the DoD Environmental Restoration and/or Compliance Programs preferred.
- Possess a working knowledge of other Federal Environmental statutes and State-specific regulations such as each State Environmental Protection Act and the State Administrative Code, local regulations and statutes, as well as DoD environmental regulations and documentation.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent time management skills, and the ability to work independently and meet strict government and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
- Dependable, fast, accurate, and extremely detail oriented.
- Motivated, outgoing self-starters requested.
- Must be able to successfully pass a federal agency background investigation.
