Technology Development Engineer - Rotation Program

Brooks is a growing, fast-paced technology leader of automation solutions which support the dynamic and expanding semiconductor and life sciences lab markets. At Brooks, new ideas, technologies, and ways of thinking are driving our future. Our customer-focused culture encourages employees to embrace innovation and collaborate with one another to achieve new heights. We are looking for our next Technology Development Engineer as we accelerate our growth journey.

What you’ll do:

  • As part of the Rotational Engineering Program, you will rotate through 3 engineering teams in order to be exposed to various disciplines in preparation for your final role within the Technology Development team in the Chelmsford MA site.
  • The first rotational role is suggested to be the Controls Engineering team. In this role, you are expected to learn about how to operate our vacuum robots, understand mechanisms and kinematic design of our robots, understand how to tune motion and servo parameters to achieve desired tracking and stability margin performance goals. You will support the controls team to help release robot application files to meet customer demands.
  • The second rotational role is suggested to take place within the software team. In this role, you will be familiarized with support for robot simulation and animation, robot Diagnostics application, robot command interface, wafer placement algorithms such as Active Wafer Centering. You will be encouraged to explore the possibility of embedding framework for AI into the robot controller for either Diagnostics or improved performance.
  • The third and final role is expected to be in the Advanced Technology Team. In this role, you are expected to leverage the knowledge accumulated over the first 2 rotations to immerse yourself into the effort of conceiving Intellectual Property and reducing it to practice in support of Brooks’ Innovation initiatives. You are expected to be involved with Machine Learning tools, Controls Algorithm Development, Electromagnetic Design, hands on lab work such as developing test plans, building test stands and experimentally validating design work in the areas of intelligent sensing, controls algorithms and electromagnetic design.

What you’ll bring:

  • Ability to learn complex systems quickly, work independently, team player and self-motivated.
  • Ability to develop Intellectual Property to support Brooks Innovation Initiatives.
  • Proficiency in programing languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Ability to perform simulations for robot trajectories.
  • Ability to understand derivations of robot equations of motion that related actuation to motion variables.
  • Ability to assimilate knowledge to program in Real Time embedded environments.
  • Ability to understand fundaments of Control System Theory for Linear and Non-Linear Systems.
  • Ability to understand Robotic Manipulator Mechanical Design including forward and inverse kinematic mathematical models.
  • Ability to assimilate and implement Machine Learning tools such as developing Neural Network models for controls and diagnostics applications.
  • Ability to write test scripts and develop Graphical User Interfaces in support of Design Verification Testing of prototypes.
