Student Services Specialist 1

Position Summary:

The Student Services Specialist 1 performs the full range of services supporting adult learners and the general public relating to College inquiries and requests for information in the areas including but not limited to:

  • Adult Education
  • High School Equivalency testing
  • Registration
  • New student orientation
  • Assessment and Testing
  • Welcome Desk

About Adult Education at Pima:

For over 50 years, Pima’s Adult Basic Education for College and Career (ABECC) Division has supported adult learners in Pima County to develop the academic and professional skills needed to prepare for and succeed in college and career. Programming has included Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, English Language Acquisition for Adults, Refugee Education, Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, Student Engagement, and Transition programming and services. Each year, 4-5,000 adults are served at college campuses, in community locations, at the Pima County Jail, and primarily at three large learning centers. ABECC has been recognized at both the state and national levels for innovation and excellence in adult education programming in the last year. ABECC and Pima Community College are committed to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels and in all programs and services. The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

This role will provide general information and assistance navigating ABECC and college systems to students and the general public in areas including but not limited to admissions, registration, eligibility, new student orientation, TABE assessment, and GED testing:

  • Guides and facilitates student admissions, program eligibility, and course selection and registration
  • Provides in-depth advising for new and returning ABECC students on the various class modalities and helps identify the programming options that meet student needs in ABECC programs
  • Facilitate student tutorials and guidance in the use of student portals and online student services
  • Facilitate and support outreach and enrollment events and student engagement activities
  • Assists in resolving routine problems for students, the public, staff, and faculty related to College student services and associated programs
  • Process and maintain accurate and detailed student records; Initiate and manage associated correspondence pertaining to student enrollment; data entry and retrieve information from databases; ensure completeness and accuracy of the information submitted
  • Prepare a variety of technical documents, that involves: collecting and verifying information; assembling, compiling and printing reports; proofreading and distributing reports\
  • Maintain confidential records and sustain impeccable accuracy in order to sustain compliance standards
  • Support new student orientation by providing program information and assist students with digital literacy skills
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required


 

Job Requirements:

  • One year (30 credits) of post-secondary education and
  • One year of experience in student/customer service

or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above

Preferred:

  • Bilingual: Spanish

  • Apply interpersonal skills to interaction with general public, coworkers, and supervisor to create a wholesome learning community
  • Adhere to state and federal guidelines, regulations and policies as required
  • Impeccable organization skills and the ability to prioritize while performing multiple tasks; allocates resources efficiently
  • Ability to meet frequent data deadlines
