Marketing and Communications Summer Internship

Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

As a Communications Intern, you will work on the Marketing Communications team to help tell stories that connect stakeholders with Kairos Power’s mission. We are looking for a creative, proactive and enthusiastic intern with a solution-oriented mindset who has the ability to change course quickly in a high-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a savvy undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for communications. 

Responsibilities

  • Research, edit, write and design communications materials for internal and external audiences, including social media posts, digital graphics, and company-wide emails
  • Interview team members about their work and write stories to share with employees and prospective job candidates
  • Collaborate on team presentations for external audiences
  • Create weekly internal media bulletins
  • Help maintain and update media contact lists
  • Conduct and compile new research to support media relations and public outreach opportunities
  • Help organize logistics for events and conferences
  • Assist in taking photos and shooting video, as needed

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing Bachelors or Masters in Communications, Science Communication, Journalism, English, or related field of study
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Good storyteller both written and visual
  • Understanding of scientific communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Proficiency in WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and adapt quickly to change while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Works well with others with the ability to build trust within the team and work effectively in a highly collaborative environment
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing simultaneous projects and activities
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

Physical Conditions

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Communicating with others to exchange information

  • High-concentration, demanding and fast-paced

Safety and PPE 

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

The hourly range for this position is $25-$27 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.  Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
