Electrical Engineering Summer Internship

Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation and Controls Intern with experience relevant to design, implementation, and operation of control systems for our test reactor. In this role, you will contribute to the design of a test reactor for the development of the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled High-Temperature Reactor (KP-FHR). The Instrumentation and Controls intern will work in a multi-disciplinary team and provides support to aspects of measurement instrumentation and automated digital system process control.
Responsibilities
- Develop basic discipline system calculations and designs for electrical and controls circuits
- Participate in the process development of electrical component interconnection diagrams
- Participate in process development
- Produce basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope properly interpreting and applying codes and standards and customer design requirements for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, and system descriptions related to design tasks
- Participate in managing and maintaining control system databases
- Participate in controller programming
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current student pursuing Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Industry internships and/or research laboratory experience preferred
- Experience with control system software (LabVIEW, PLCs, etc.)
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles
- Experience with control system analysis and design and control systems protocols is a plus
- Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with cross-functional teams
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
- Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
- Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge

The hourly range for this position is $28 to $32 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
