Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students experience and exposure to the health professional industry. Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationship and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Now-October 15th: Invitation to complete Pre-Recorded Video Interview
October 15th-filled: 2nd round interviews & offers made.
- As interns at Blue Shield of California, interns:
- Participate in impactful projects during their 10-week program
- 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the health care industry, and more
- Are invited to participate in BSC employee events such as Employee Resource Groups, Employee volunteer activities, and more.
Your Role
The Information Technology team oversees our data & analytics, strategic planning & performance, IT infrastructure services, IT shared services, IT applications, and information security functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield. IT is a business partner that provides delivery excellence and leverages technology advancement to ensure Blue Shield is an information-led organization, in a secure, connected healthcare ecosystem. The Information Technology Intern will report to a manager in one of our various business units. In this role you will be developing and strengthening the structures needed to support a culture of analytics governance and delivering and collaborating on all aspects of data and advanced analytics products, and working with leadership to identify, document, and enhance the team’s analytics environment and develop a strategy to bolster the team’s capabilities.
Internships within the Information & Technology team may include:
Innovation Engineer- you will be working as a part of the HIT (Health Information & Technology) development and Forward Engineering team. You will be responsible for investigating and evaluating new and emerging technologies and their application to healthcare. This role is part of an innovation team composed of a crack team of developers, strategists and Designers working in an agile manner whose primary mission is to successfully build disruptive new prototypes used to demonstrate the company’s vision of how technology, data and analytics can be used to improve health care outcomes.
Data Visualization: will be developing and strengthening the structures needed to support a culture of analytics governance and delivering and collaborating on all aspects of data and advanced analytics products, and working with leadership to identify, document, and enhance the team’s analytics environment and develop a strategy to bolster the team’s capabilities.
Cloud Engineering: a cross functional group responsible for the advancement and support of the Blue Shield multi cloud presence. The Cloud Engineering Intern will report to the DevOps team manager. In this role you will have a broad and deep impact on how Blue Shield achieves its business and technical goals by leveraging cloud technologies within modern operating models.
Dev Ops: Work with team to design, plan and implement enterprise-wide Platform solutions across a multi-cloud presence (Azure, GCP and AWS); Gain a solid understanding of Data Flow, Data Transformation, Machine Learning, Secrets Management, CI/CD tools, Java Containers, and Search / Analytics Services.
Strategic Planning and Performance: Support the planning team for managing progress towards are strategic initiatives and operational effectiveness; Manage the IT metric dashboard, develop a process to gather and review on a regular cadence and ensure regular reporting of metrics, performance measures that support business objectives and results; Partner with the IT division leads to execute against Human Capital Plan and manage our talent pipeline including reporting
UX Research Design: you will be developing and strengthening the structures needed to support a culture of analytics governance and delivering and collaborating on all aspects of data and advanced analytics products, and working with leadership to identify, document, and enhance the team’s analytics environment and develop a strategy to bolster the team’s capabilities.
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT related role (SRE, Dev Ops, Computer Science, Business Analytics, UX Design, Cloud Engineering)
- Interns must reside in the state of CA for the duration of the internship
- Minimum 1 year of related professional experience, project, or coursework
- Strong communication skills required, particularly writing for publication.
- Proactive, solution focused mindset with demonstrated creative, problem-solving skills
- Passionate about changing healthcare and challenging the status quo to advance health equity
