USDA - Outreach Ambassador (Virtual)
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific in-house research agency. They work in finding solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table.
The ARS is looking for a student intern for their Spring 2024 session. This position is virtual with flexible hours.
Duties:
- Plan and coordinate on-campus and virtual events and information sessions for college students, high school students and other interested groups
- Communicate with current and prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of scientific community.
- Prepare written communication, outreach materials and facilitate presentations.
- Create social media content for targeted outreach campaigns with emphasis on promoting career and internship opportunities.
- Report and maintain accurate records regarding outreach and recruitment activities.
- Plan and design projects and implement initiatives that support the strategic priorities of the Talent Outreach Branch.
- Attend all Talent Outreach team meetings and leadership development workshops.
- Plan and participate in peer-to-peer mentoring, networking and professional development activities designed to engage current and former interns.
- Engagement in outreach and recruitment activities that support USDA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) strategic goals
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Skills
1) Excellent oral and written, interpersonal and public speaking communication skills and ability to customize communication to suit a specific audience.
2) Ability to approach any situation, individual, or groups of people with an open mind, friendly demeanor, and willingness to step outside personal comfort zones to fully engage in all types of Outreach Ambassador program activities.
3) Ability to work independently with demonstrated organizational skills including tracking and management of time commitments.
4) Ability to participate as an active member of a team to achieve shared goals that foster inclusion and effectiveness.
5) Familiarity with social media platforms and willingness to learn several virtual recruitment platforms such as LinkedIn, Handshake, etc.
6) Experience with Microsoft Office, Power point, Teams, Zoom, Canva and web design software
7) Willingness to travel and to make appropriate presentations in a variety of venues.
