The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Student - Electrification Systems Engineering for John Deere Power Systems located in Champaign, Moline, or Waterloo/Ames/Des Moines, IA, you will:
- Work with other engineers to define and develop the engineering requirements of electric drive components and systems
- Design electric drive system interfaces and specify the related vehicle systems to meet the vehicle requirements
- Complete technical analysis and physical testing of electric drive components, including electric machines, power conversion electronics, and harnesses
- Design motor and system control algorithms for electric drives and vehicles
- Simulate electric drive and vehicle systems to virtually verify performance prior to hardware being available
This position is available to students on immigration visas.
What Skills You Need
- Ideally you will be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in an Engineering discipline; others may apply
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a U.S. accredited college/university
- Graduation date of August 2024 or later
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 (3.4 or higher preferred)
- Available to work during the academic year 5-20 hours/weekly
- Available to work during the summer semester 20-40 hours/weekly
- Must be able to commute to the work locations listed on an as needed basis year-round (NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided.)
- Course work and hands-on lab experience with electrical power, energy conversion, power electronics, electric machines, or controls
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
What Makes You Stand Out
- Participation in hands-on projects in electric drive or vehicle engineering related areas like the Illini EV Concept team, SAE Electric Team, SAE Formula Team, SAE Baja Team, etc.
- Course work or experience in agricultural related areas
- Experience using Matlab/Simulink tools to complete complex analysis tasks and/or dynamic system modeling
- Experience analyzing CAN bus data
- Experience using 3D modeling tools
NOTE: For Iowa State University Engineering students, this assignment will qualify for an ISU co-op position working 20 hours per week.
