Electric Demand Forecasting Engineer Intern

Department Description:

The New England region's deep commitment to decarbonizing its economy within the next few decades has made ISO-NE's work in forecasting electricity demand an exciting, challenging, and innovative career path. The forecasting group in System Planning is responsible for predictive modeling and data analytics that span both short-term (up to one week ahead) and long-term (10 years or more) time horizons.

What will you be working on:

In this internship, you will collaborate with forecasting staff in developing software and automated processes in support of various load forecast activities. Responsibilities will include: 1) Develop data pipelines; 2) Conduct descriptive and/or predictive statistical analysis; 3) Development of new code, and perform review and refactoring of existing code. 4.) Perform research to gain domain knowledge required for project(s).

How will you make an impact:

Emerging trends in electrification and the proliferation of distributed energy resources represent unprecedented changes to the region's end-use consumption of electricity. The candidate selected for this internship will help their team develop novel solutions to address key forecast challenges and help the ISO facilitate the region's energy transition.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Enjoys coding and building automated processes, familiarity with Python, R, or Matlab is required;
  • Experience performing statistical analysis of large data sets;
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Academic concentration in engineering, data science, economics, statistics, meteorology, or equivalent;
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

 

To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
