Structural engineering internship - 2024

We are looking for adaptable, self-motivated students who are excellent working both individually, as well as in a team to join us. We need you to be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both your colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication. A strong attention to detail is essential, as well as having a methodical approach to problem solving. We will expect you to draw on your university and employment experiences to manage your time effectively and to meet deadlines. This is a minimum 3-month internship position based out of our Calgary office. This position will be for Summer 2024.
As a Structural engineering intern, your responsibilities may include:
- An introduction to conceptual, preliminary and detailed design
- An introduction to site inspection, investigations and monitoring
- Support designers and engineers in research, design, calculation, and preparation of technical reports, specifications and studies
- Preparing conceptual and detailed AutoCAD and Civil3D design drawings for rail & transit or civil engineering design
- Technical writing and communications
- Project support and administration
As a structural engineering intern, you will support the delivery of major infrastructure projects which may include:
- Large industrial natural gas distribution and metering facilities which include metal buildings, large, vibrating machinery foundations, pipe racks and other steel framing
- Electrical substation facilities designing the steel framing and foundations supporting electrical equipment and bus
- Renewable solar farm and wind turbine farm facilities.

To be considered for an internship position, you will currently be working towards a master's degree or a bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering, from an accredited university.
We are looking for students with the following characteristics:
- Prior relevant internships, co-ops or practical work-experience preferred
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
- Having an ability to listen to others and ask clarifying questions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and prior experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D preferred
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals who are deeply committed to exceeding client expectations
