Spanish Translation Intern (@ Catholic Charities)

Spanish Translation Intern at Catholic Charities in Milwaukee, WI - shared by Jobs That Help as third party

Job Type Details: Unpaid Internship, college credits earned.

Immigration law regularly changes and these changes can be confusing for immigrants with limited English proficiency and who may have lower education levels than the US-born population.
As many immigrants are desperate to normalize their status in the US or reunify with their family, they are vulnerable to scams; therefore we frequently update our website and YouTube Channel with the latest information in Spanish.
As an intern, you will have the ability to gain hands on experience:
  • Translating blog posts and video scripts written by Catholic Charities’ staff into Spanish that is easy to understand by speakers from a variety of countries.
  • Optional: Record videos in Spanish to be posted on Catholic Charities’ YouTube Channel
In addition to these videos, to build credible cases for immigrants seeking various forms of immigration relief, Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services’ bilingual Spanish-speaking attorneys must submit translated documents to United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).
You will be able to gain experience:
  • Working with lawyers to translate legal forms such as: marriage certificates, birth certificates, school diplomas, and other civil documents from Spanish to English using templates provided by Catholic Charities.
  • Translating text messages and letters written by family and friends on behalf of clients from Spanish to English
