Job Description Summary:
The comprehensive planning intern supports the planning team on a variety of plans and projects and is responsible for performing long range and environmental planning duties as requested. Important skills include: Research and writing, GIS-based analysis and production, graphic design to convey planning concepts, document production (i.e., Office Suite, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator) and verbal communications. The city prefers a graduate or undergraduate level student from planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, architecture, urban design or a related field. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take ownership of project deliverables. Candidates should be able to work both virtually and in-person.
Job Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works collaboratively with several teams on current projects to implement the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, that could include the East Boulder Subcommunity Plan, Boulder Junction Phase 2, ecological planning projects, the city's 6-year Capital Improvement Program, and multiple community engagement opportunities. This position will also research specific topics as the team prepares for a major update to the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan beginning in 2025. Work will generally include assisting in research, GIS analysis and map creation, preparation of reports, graphics development, attending public meetings, answering basic planning questions, and coordinating community engagement activities.
Assists in creating and updating planning databases and reports for annual demographic and development-related data.
Candidates with sufficient GIS experience may assist with on-going management and implementation of Boulder's three-dimensional land use scenario planning program.
