Job Summary:
The part-time Human Resources Intern will work (15-20 hours per week during the summer and 10-20 hours per week during the school year) under the supervision of our Vice President of Human Resources/In-House Counsel and providing support to the Human Resource Generalist. The Intern must possess strong communication skills and excellent organizational skills. The primary duties will involve assisting with job postings, employee onboarding, file and database management, an HR newsletter, and employee recognition efforts.

As soon as possible, with potential for one-year, school-year or semester internship.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assists with the development of a monthly HR newsletter, seeking opportunities to consistently improve the visual appeal and engagement for this communication platform.
  2. Organizing and maintaining personnel records and I-9 documents; filing documents in personnel records.
  3. Assist with recruiting by creating job ads and posting jobs to various sites and removing job postings when vacancies are filled.
  4. Assist with creating employment letters and onboarding for our Summer Cool program.
  5. Assist in maintaining Archdiocese of Milwaukee CMG Connect database related to required background checks and course requirements for DSHA employees and volunteers.
  6. Updating internal databases by inputting new employee information and details; create and help maintain various employee onboarding and training tracking databases.
  7. Assist with Sunshine Committee events. The purpose of the committee is to spread sunshine to our DSHA community, recognizing efforts and accomplishments big and small, assisting in times of need or support, planning events, and creating belonging across all DSHA’s departments. 8. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience: Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Human Resources or related field. Previous experience working in an office environment preferred. Previous recruiting or human resources internship experience is a plus but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • The ability to work with confidential information.
  • Excellent proofreading, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills with the ability to maintain accuracy in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, able to work independently, and committed to meeting or exceeding deadlines.
  • PC skills must include proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook. Knowledge of HRIS or other database systems is preferred.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Frequently, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work takes place primarily in an office/school environment.
