Software Development Intern (Summer 2024)

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for highly motivated Innovation Interns, who are passionate about the intersection of technology and construction, to join our Chicago Innovation team. At ARCO, every associate is empowered to make an impact from day one! Our Innovation Team is a rare find in the industry and works to connect everyone at ARCO to technology from Structural Engineers to Site Superintendents. We are motivated to change the future of construction by working with our diverse team to plan, build, and deliver groundbreaking solutions.  


A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Support full-stack development of internal web-tools, which include:
    • Developing the front-end web-clients
    • Developing back-end APIs to support the front-end web-client
    • Developing database schemas that power the web-tools and develop code for CRUD operations on the database
    • Learning and developing testing and deployment process
  • Spend time with the product manager and key stakeholders to learn about current processes and brainstorm new approaches to solving existing business challenges
  • Create system designs for proposed solutions as well as developing wireframes and user interface planning
  • Find innovative ways to collect data from existing disparate sources, enriching our data layer for better business intelligence tooling
  • Work on optimizing and further integrating existing enterprise applications
  • Interns will have the opportunity to take ownership of project ideas that they feel passionate about


NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science or similar Engineering program, completed boot camp program, or relevant work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working with dispersed teams
  • Willingness and ability to work independently, as well as collaborate in team settings
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned project from start to finish
  • Eager to learn and expand skillset

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous internship or professional work experience in any field is helpful, but not required.
  • Familiarity with full-stack software development, experience with relational databases, working with APIs.
