Pay Rate: $11.00/hr.
Organization Overview
Indy Hunger Network (IHN) is a collaborative organization made up of non-profit and corporate partners working on hunger relief in the Greater Indianapolis area. IHN’s three focus areas are nutrition, access, and sustainability of the food supply in our community.
The Data & Outreach Assistant will work specifically with IHN’s Community Compass app. Community Compass is a free mobile/web application that connects people throughout Indiana to food resources (e.g. food pantries, meal sites, SNAP and WIC stores, WIC clinics, food-related events, and more). The person in this role will help us keep the information listed on Community Compass up-to-date by verifying the information with service providers (primarily via phone). Additionally, the person in this role will help us spread the word about Community Compass in order to gain more users of the app.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties for this position are listed below. Additional duties may be assigned.
● 60% Make phone calls and complete online searches in order to verify and update information for food pantries, meal sites, and events listed on Community Compass.
● 30% Implement outreach strategies to promote Community Compass throughout Indiana, including delivering marketing materials, attending community events, demonstrating the app to potential users, and/or posting flyers.
● 10% Participate in meetings with the Community Compass team to get oriented and to report on progress.

● Ability to communicate professionally and personably on the phone with diverse groups of people.
● Working knowledge of Google Sheets and Google Docs.
● Ability to work autonomously with good time management.
● Access to reliable transportation.
● Ability to lift 20+ pounds.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Gained in this Role
Students will learn how to communicate information effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds by
helping implement outreach strategies related to Community Compass.
Students will develop an understanding of nonprofit programming by participating in the day-to-day work involved in running and expanding programs. Students will gain data management skills by working with large datasets on multiple platforms, including
making edits to the backend of a mobile/web app. Students will gain the ability to collaborate more effectively with others by participating on team projects within the workplace and in the community.
