"Think It Make It Lab" Assistant Technician

Must be work study eligible


A little about the Think It Make It Lab: The lab promotes the creative use of new technologies in a collaborative environment for research and experimentation with the aim of merging technology with traditional processes. The Lab expands Herron’s capability to educate students to work on concept design and prototyping using a variety of digital fabrication methods. Students and faculty working in this lab engage in research, design, digital fabrication and production methodologies that will be invaluable to their own creative and professional development and to 21st century industry.

Herron School of Art and Design's Think It Make It Lab is looking for student workers to assist the lab coordinator with the following:
  • 25% Maintain lab equipment which includes but isn't limited to 3D printers, laser engravers, and large format printers.
  • 25% Monitor the lab; supply students with stylus for Wacom tablets and ensure that only students who are certified use lab equipment.
  • 25% Assist and help students using the lab.
  • 25% Help keep the space clean and organized.

  • Communicator: Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with peers and fellow students. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students in the lab.
  • Problem Solver: Students will collaborate with peers and professionals across campus to provide better learning opportunities for students. Students will gain analytical skills by evaluating current procedures and determining effectiveness through the use of data and research.
  • Students in this position will gain facilitation skills by leading training for students across campus.

Qualifications:
  • Federal Work Study Eligible (check your financial aid to see if you were awarded with a work-study award)
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Student at IUPUI
  • Available to work Mondays & Wednesdays from 3pm-6pm, additional hours can be added
  • Demonstrates good customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Familiar with technologies such as 3D printing and laser engraving
  • 3D computer modeling skills and CNC experience a plus
