Position Title: Peer Learning Coach
Organization: Kelley Indianapolis Undergraduate Program
Department: Office of Academic and Professional Development
Hourly Wage: $11.00
Number of Openings: 2
Hours Per Week: 10 hours/week
Reports to: Associate Director of Diversity Initiatives
 
Position Type: Regular Student Temporary, Part-time, Work-Study
Majors Preferred: Undergraduate Business Degree
Desired Work Schedule: Flexible schedule.
Kelley School of Business, 801 W. Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN
Academic Term: August 2023 start, and continue past academic year based on performance and student eligibility
 
The Purpose of Peer Learning Coach:
The Peer Learning Coach:
·        Facilitates instructional and help sessions with groups and individual students to understand and apply key concepts, provide instructional, quiz and test-taking strategies for academic success.
·        Assists students in mastering course material and solving problems.
·        Helps students to become independent learners, master the course concepts, while improving their study and cognitive skills.
·         Is a "model student" able to show how successful students think about and process math course content.
 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Approximate Hours 10 Per Week)
1.  Leads peer-assisted study sessions for students taking MATH 11100, M 118, M 119 and K 201.
2.  Leads classroom exercises, discussions and incorporates learning strategies.
3.  Provides individual student and group coaching and instruction.
4.  May attend class sessions, takes notes, and meet with the course instructor to gain a better understanding the needs of students taking the course and better understand challenges students taking the course face.
 
Required Qualifications:
·        Must have successfully completed the course at IUPUI you wish to be a Peer Learning Coach for (MATH 11100, M 118, M 119 or K 201) receiving a B or higher in the course. 
·        Currently possesses a Cumulative GPA at IUPUI of 2.75 or higher

  • Enjoy creating an atmosphere of community among their peers and be willing to go the extra mile to help others.
  • Possess strong self-discipline, and demonstrate the ability to balance their time well. 
  • Exhibit strong self-confidence and optimism despite challenges. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Tutoring experience  
 
Responsibilities
  • Ability to build strong healthy mentoring/coaching relationships with students (2-3 students)
  • Is willing to meet with your assigned mentees one-on-one
  • Takes the initiative to ensure your mentees build a strong academic foundation.
  • Helps student grow personally and professionally (resume, interviews, internships, do research) 
  • Models positive character attributes and professionalism and help their assigned mentees develop these exemplary behavioral characteristics.  
  • Help mentees utilize resources.
  • Documents weekly contacts with your mentees, and reports unusual circumstances to your supervisor.

●    Communicator- They will practice active listening and effectively convey information when meeting with students. They will also build trust with fellow students as they teach instructional strategies for success.
●    Community Contributor- Career Peer Learning Coach will gain the ability to respectfully and ethically engage amongst a variety of cultures. They will demonstrate flexibility in working alongside students and professional staff members. Peer Learning Coaches will accept the responsibility leading group instruction that will make a difference to helping students gain fundamental course concept understanding. 
●    Problem Solver- The Career Peer Learning Coach will learn to evaluate learners’ level ability in coursework and come up with strategies to bridge their understanding of fundamental concepts. They will practice active listening and effectively convey information when meeting with students. They will also build trust with fellow students and support them in their goals throughout the course of their career and internship search.
