PUBLIC RELATIONS FELLOWSHIP
Description The CHLI Public Relations Fellow works within the Communications Team to develop
internal and external communications materials such as newsletters, program signage, social media graphics, and website copy. The fellow will update CHLI’s social media and help with the summarization of analytics, working together with the Communications Director to implement and evaluate the efforts. It is essential that applicants have excellent communication and writing skills, demonstrate creativity and understand the importance of attending to even the smallest details.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing MailChimp subscriber lists and development of email campaigns and
e-newsletters
- Develop press releases and program recaps
- Interface with the media/journalists as needed
- Draft copy for digital content and distribution of e-newsletters to subscribers
- Work with website manager to update user-facing content on the CHLI website
- Work on a fast-paced deadline system to ensure consistent messaging
- Support with behind-the-scene research and creation for social media content
- Help prepare monthly reports detailing the analytics of all social platforms
- Assist with the development of media kits and other presentation materials
- Conduct behind-the-scene research and newsletter management
- Perform project-specific marketing and communications outreach to support CHLI leadership,
sponsors, and programs
- Assist with program documents, news clippings and content messaging
- Identify marketing and communication trends
- Attend virtual and in-person programs on behalf of CHLI and report back to the team
- Provide administrative support when needed (including data entry, mass e-mailings, program
coordination, technical assistance, and preparing meeting notes)
Requirements
- Able to provide a sample of your writing and/or social media work.
- Must have a solid understanding of copywriting, email campaigns, and content creation.
- Must be proficient with WordPress, Canva, MailChimp, and Flickr.
- Recent completion of Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations,
Advertising, Marketing, or related field. -OR- Currently majoring in the aforementioned fields and
on track to graduate within a year.
- Must be able to work on-site in Washington, D.C. up to twice a week.
- Ability to work remotely with the main team based in Washington D.C., (Eastern Time Zone).
- Ability to multitask and be a self-starter.
- Ability to work independently and be a team player.
- Comfortability using all forms of communication, including but not limited to email, telephone, and
social media.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
