Sirovich Center for Balanced Living: Community Engagement Intern

Division - Department: Older Adult Programs – Sirovich Center for Balanced Living

Time(s) and Day(s): Monday – Friday | Hours of Operation: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Shifts Flexible)

The Sirovich Center for Balanced Living (SLCB) is a diverse and warm community center focused on serving active and engaged older adults. The SLCB is in need of an energetic and responsive individual seeking hands-on work experience in a non-profit setting. Our interns work closely with almost all departments of the SCBL, including but not limited to: meal services, arts & culture, health & wellness, social services, programming, and general administration. 

As we are a community center for older adults, applicants need to be comfortable engaging with the older adult community. Interns will develop relationships with members (I.e., learn their names, and is expected to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members upon entry to the center).

As a community center that offers an incredibly diverse range of programs, classes, events, and projects, we can enable interns to explore a variety of roles reflecting various future career paths. we aim to delegate roles and responsibilities with your interests, especially future occupational interests, in mind.

Intern responsibilities will include:  
  • Assisting with the facilitation and implementation of programs, classes, and special events 
  • Explore and actively participate in a minimum of two roles described later below  
  • Greet, engage, and guide members upon their entry 
  • Carrying out tasks given by supervisors across departments 
  • Attend monthly all-staff meetings, and attending weekly check-ins 
  • The adequate completion of original Personal Project 

Intern responsibilities can and will include:
  • Assist with the carrying of trays for community members requiring additional support  
  • Promote special events or classes to all members via creating flyers, and making public announcements 
  • Engage with members to collect and pass along their feedback to improve policies, programs, and services
  • Maintain attendance sheets for off-site programming
  • Research important days of celebration (i.e., holidays, days of remembrance) for upcoming months, Lead brainstorming and instillation of appropriate decorations 
  • Facilitate Front House Service Desk for duration of shift  
  • Answering service calls 
  • Managing donations and ceramics sales 
  • Ensuring programming attendance sheet and program registration accuracy 
  • Maintain regular contact with members, communicating information on program activities and connecting them to community resources as needed 

Qualifications/Requirements:  
  • Comfortable interacting with an older adult community 
  • All EA staff and interns must be vaccinated against COVID-19 
  • Must be willing to complete a background check upon request 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suites beneficial; required by midpoint of internship
