University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources

County Location: Ventura County

Date Posted: July 20, 2023
Closing Date: Until Filled

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) brings the power of University of California research and education to all 58 California counties. Through research and extension in agriculture, natural resources, economic growth, nutrition, and youth development, we work to improve the life of every Californian. The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) is part of UC ANR and has been active in Ventura County since 1914. Advisors and community educators collaboratively fulfill the mission of bringing science-based solutions to farmers, communities and the environment to promote the health and well-being of people and places across the county. We are also trusted partners with hundreds of community organizations in addressing Ventura County's most pressing challenges. Staff and advisors are headquartered at 669 County Square Drive in Ventura. Farm labor force development is one of the top priorities identified by Ventura County stakeholders. While extension is typically delivered to farm owners and supervisors, the Farm Workforce Development program will deliver hands-on training (in Spanish and English) to field workers who are the “boots-on-the-ground” decision makers. The trainings will be designed to improve water, fertilizer and pesticide use efficiency, to address environmental regulations, and to promote farm worker safety and environmental sustainability. Each training module will provide attendees with a certificate of completion, which potentially could be used to facilitate regulatory requirements by state agencies, such as the State Water Resources Control Board and Department of Pesticide Regulation.

Position Summary:
The Farm Workforce Development Community Education Specialist (CES 2) will perform the full range of program implementation duties. This position's primary focus will be on conducting, managing, and evaluating an education program to increase the impact of extension programs in Ventura County.
