Pay: $12.00/hour, Part-time.
The Michigan Supreme Court is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Intern
Clerk to Chief Justice Elizabeth T. Clement. The internship will require 10 to 16 hours per week
and will begin in January 2024 and last through April 2024. Some in-person availability on
Wednesdays are preferred.
The position includes oversight by and interaction with the Justice, and primary responsibilities
performed under the supervision of a judicial clerk include, but are not limited to:
• Review applications for leave to appeal and cases scheduled for conference consideration. As necessary, prepare summaries and recommendations for the Justice;
• Confer with the Justice on pending matters such as applications for leave to appeal, conference items, opinions, and orders;
• Review and analyze administrative agenda items;
• Prepare memoranda in advance of oral argument, including reviewing the case record, conducting legal research, summarizing important facts and arguments, and providing a recommendation on disposition;
• Performing other discrete legal research projects as available.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Current Juris Doctor (JD) candidate from an accredited law
school. Experience in legal research and writing preferred.
LOCATION: Hall of Justice in Lansing, Michigan.
