Transportation Specialist Pathways Student Intern

This is a Student Internship position under the Pathways Internship Program.

To qualify for this Internship, you MUST be a continuing student enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the current/upcoming semesters for the duration of the internship as a condition of employment, taking at least a half-time course load. You will be required to provide documentation to support eligibility. Students may be employed throughout the academic year.

This is a developmental position in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) The student trainee will develop knowledge and skills in the performance of a variety of transportation specialist functions, including planning, environmental protection, real estate, finance, and civil rights. The incumbent will assist senior transportation specialist in performing a variety of task in one or more of the functional areas.

As a Transportation Specialist Pathways Student Intern, you will:
  • Assist higher graded specialist in providing leadership, interpretation, guidance, and training related to state department of transportation and local agency transportation projects and programs.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, and similar events.
  • Assist the Division in completing project and program reviews and tracking progress on the Division’s annual work plan.
  • Receive on-the-job training to develop knowledge and skills relevant to a career in one or more transportation programs.
  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

The ideal candidate has an interest and education in one or more programs that support transportation project development and delivery, including planning, environmental protection, real estate, finance, engineering, program management, civil rights. The candidate also possesses strong academic achievement, excellent communications skills, and is willing to learn a broad range of related transportation-topics. Fluent in Spanish language is preferred.
