Salary: Salary and benefits (including tuition) are commensurate with academic standing per the labor contract and salary schedule that govern academic student employees.
The University Honors Program has an outstanding opportunity for a graduate student for a 50% FTE Graduate Staff Assistant appointment, offering an opportunity to assist higher education professionals in the daily work of the Honors Program.
The primary responsibilities of the Honors Front Desk GSA include:
Reception & Administrative Support
- Provide administrative/clerical support for the Honors Program, assist in daily operations (i.e. managing main email), and office organization.
- General representation of the Program as the primary reception staff.
- Update web pages, assemble weekly announcements and maintain an announcements blog.
- Assist faculty and respond to basic course questions.
- Assist with academic services projects, including responding to student inquiries and directing students to resources.
- Assist in planning and implementation of meetings and events.
- Assist staff with ongoing equity and inclusion efforts, including updating demographic information on the website, outreach and recruitment strategies and events.
Outreach & Admissions:
- Represent the Honors Program at various campus outreach and recruitment events.
- Support admissions processes, including: answer questions about applications and timelines, evaluate applications for freshman admissions, assist prospective students/families in gathering information.
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: September 16, 2023 - June 15, 2024.
HOURS: Approximately 20 hours per week in the Honors Program office, between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays (exact dates/time TBD).
Requirements:
- Must be formally enrolled in a program in the UW Graduate School for at least 10 credits during each quarter.
- Working knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, & Outlook.
- General knowledge/interest in student programs.
- Equally comfortable working as a team and autonomously.
- Demonstrated attention to organization and detail.
- Demonstrated experience seeking information and following up to resolve questions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience discreetly managing confidential personal data.
- Sensitivity to complex diversity/multicultural/socioeconomic issues and educational backgrounds.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
- Previous participation or direct affiliation with the UW Honors Program or other undergraduate honors programs, demonstrating a practical understanding of the program's mission and values;
- Thorough knowledge of academic programs at colleges/universities and specifically at UW, including curricula, advising, and admissions requirements.
