Desk Assistants or DAs work in a team environment to provide quality customer service experiences to all residents in the residence halls as well as any guest. They work closely with other student staff positions within Housing and Residence Life as well as the professional staff team within HRL. Duties & Responsibilities:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide customer service and problem-solving support to the students that live in on-campus housing. At IUPUI, Housing and Residence Life’s on-campus housing includes Ball Residence Hall, North Residence Hall, Riverwalk Apartments, and University Tower – all of which have a Community Desk that is staffed by Resident Assistants and Community Desk Assistants.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Staff the Community Desk and handle all relevant tasks and assignments
- Maintain a high level of customer service
- Answer the desk phone
- Sort, log, and distribute packages and mail
- Provide trouble-shooting support to residents and guests
- Perform lock-outs
- Communicate issues related to card access
- Uphold a high level of customer service
- Communicate with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Create a welcoming environment for all students, faculty, and staff
- Other duties as assigned
- Manage administrative tasks that are provided by your supervisor

Time Commitment:
Must work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week, 20-25 hours of availability is required during normal desk hours. These shifts will take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 12:00 pm-9:00 pm. Preference will be given to students that are available within the listed timeframes, but your schedule will be based around your classes.
Pay Rate:
This position will be $10.15 per hour. This position is not limited to candidates with a Federal Work-Study Award but Work-Study is accepted.
