The main responsibilities of this Laboratory Assistant are to assist the Specialty Crops Cooperative Extension Advisor in technical field and lab research activities which include monitoring plant and soil moisture status, monitoring pest and diseases through traps and scouting, and collecting and processing samples. The laboratory assistant will work independently after training in setting up and operating research equipment, accurately and timeously collecting data, and may help to set up and evaluate experiments and trials in the lab and the field. Job duties include assembling, maintaining and correctly and safely operating laboratory and field research tools and other equipment, and maintaining and cleaning equipment and facilities. The assistant may summarize and minimally analyze research data; and assist in the assembly, testing and operation of complex laboratory equipment. The assistant may also help in setting up equipment and material for extension events.

This position is a limited term appointment that is 30% variable.

Pay Scale: $20.66/hour to $22.48/hour

This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
