Artistic Director, Conductor, Madison Flute Choirs

Artistic Director: MFC Community Flute Choir
The Madison Flute Club, a local non-profit community group playing a range of classical and pop arrangements seeks a Co-Artistic Director. The group of ~30 active members rehearses biweekly from 7 pm-8:30pm on the West side of Madison. Concerts are clustered seasonally during four times of the year (early May, August, November, and December). Concerts are usually on Tuesdays or Saturdays.
The Artistic Director runs rehearsals and works in tandem with our co- Artistic Director for Chamber Choir to collaborate on programming, music selection and part assignments. Duties for conducting the Flute Choir may also be shared with a student Conducting Intern.

Experience conducting an ensemble is necessary; mastery of the flute is desired but not required. Candidates should have experience leading a musical group and the ability to help shape the musical performance, encourage proper balance, tuning, tempo, phrasing, etc., along with the ability to command attention from a large group of players. This position is appropriate for an accomplished musician with conducting experience.

Commitment of longer than a year is preferred. Sessions: Summer: prep for the annual June 21st Make Music event thru an early August concert at a local art fair). Fall/Winter: September thru mid-December; Spring: late January thru early May. Presence at most rehearsals and concerts is expected, however, an Intern and co-Artistic Director share the conducting load to help cover rehearsals/concerts in the case of conflicts, travel, illness, etc. The co-Artistic Directors are also invited to regular board and planning meetings (available on Zoom). The stipend is a per rehearsal and concert rate, averaging $400-$500 per season, depending on the number of rehearsals and concerts.
