ArcGIS Mapper/Project Coordinator

Position Overview: Reporting to the Census Supervisor, the Project Coordinator/ArcGIS Mapper is a motivated individual who will be responsible for coordinating homeless census activities in assigned regions of Orange County. They must be a self-starter with exceptional planning and organizational skills. They will support the planning, implementation and reporting phases of homeless census, including the 2023 Point in Time Count. The Project Coordinator will interact and collaborate with city officials, police departments, nonprofits and faith-based communities, and educational institutions throughout Orange County. This position will focus on the creation of maps showing the likely locations of unsheltered individuals and encampments using ArcGIS to be utilized by volunteers, and City Net staff throughout the censuses.
 
Main Work Location: On days when field work is required, the person in this position will report to the Anaheim office to be dispatched throughout Southern California. Administrative work may be completed remotely.
 
Work Environment and Expected Hours: The person in this position will work in the field surveying people experiencing street-level homelessness. PIT Project Coordinators meet with homeless neighbors in person. Personal Protective Equipment, such as masks and gloves are provided by the organization. Availability and dependability to work early morning, evening and/or weekend responsibilities as required.

Requires travel throughout Southern California, primarily in Orange County.

Requirements:
  • Experience and enjoyment in working with ArcGIS mapping
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience and enjoyment in working with people affected by homelessness
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, planning, and coordination skills
  • Strong computer skills (position will utilize Microsoft Office, Google services, HMIS, and Adobe-Photoshop)
  • Strong data interpretation, report-writing, and analytical skills
  • Effective and confident public speaking skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing responsibilities and tasks as assigned
  • Availability and dependability to work early morning, evening and/or weekend responsibilities as required
  • Coordinate with law enforcement departments, collaborating agencies, and city officials to create comprehensive maps of each city using ArcGIS
  • Develop survey in compliance with HUD-PIT count standards and methodologies
  • Coordinate with local emergency shelters to schedule surveys of each location during census
  • Participate in data collection and survey testing prior to the actual census
  • Ensure data is entered properly to ArcGIS database
  • Analyze and interpret data findings and trends
  • Compile final reports for county and individual cities, including demographics and GIS data

Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Urban Planning, Human Services or related field preferred
  • Experience interacting with people affected by homelessness, substance use disorders, chronic health, and mental health concerns, domestic and intimate partner violence, and/or human trafficking strongly preferred
