Residential Community Coordinator (RCC)
The Residence Hall student population is incredibly diverse and dynamic! We are looking for someone that is committed to empowering students and advising them as they build a positive and healthy community. The SRCC helps develop leadership skills along with interpersonal and intercultural growth among residents. This position will recruit, train, and advise creative, enthusiastic, and energetic students that are willing to make a difference in the housing community.
Essential Responsibilities:
I. Community Development
A. Foster a sense of community within assigned floor and building and with resident assistants.
B. Know residents assistants individually and develop appropriate interpersonal relationships with each member of the community.
C. Provide consistent communication with residents through virtual and in-person interaction, post all University and residence life notices appropriately, and develop programs, etc.
D. Identify, develop, and support the goals and work with student leaders in residence hall areas including Residence Hall Association organization and other student groups.
E. Encourages active student involvement in floor, building community, and campus-wide activities
F. Foster and role model academic success and striving towards a timely graduation.
G. Expand your knowledge and experience by developing and leading new initiatives and becoming engaged in campus and serving on university committees, projects, and programs that benefit our residential program and complement your personal and professional interests.
II. Programming
A. Track, evaluate, and approve programs and activities developed by resident assistants.
B. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities for residential community.
C. Support and encourage participation in University
activities sponsored outside Student Housing & Residence Life.
D. Solicit faculty participation in residence hall virtual and in person programs
and activities.
E. Involve residents in the planning and implementation process of virtual and in
person programs.
III. Resident Assistant/Referral Person
A. Serve as a student advocate and educator; available and accessible to students on a
scheduled and non-scheduled basis.
B. Role model appropriate behavior and attitudes.
C. Help residents adjust to University life with respect to a variety of
developmental issues.
D. Mediate conflicts virtually or in person between students including suitemate
conflicts.
E. Know when and how to refer residents to appropriate campus resources such as:
the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Health Center, Counseling
Center, UPD, Academic Support Services, Office of Career Exploration and
Community Engagement, etc.
F. Report all student health concerns immediately.
IV. Community Standards Agent
A. Adhere to residence life and University policies.
B. Report incidents of inappropriate behavior and refer students for assistance.
C. Document violations of Housing/University rules and regulations.
D. Inform students of policies and procedures as well as safety and security issues.
E. Maintain a fair and impartial disposition towards residents regardless of their disciplinary history.
F. Serve as hearing officer for the residential community in support of the educational and developmental student conduct process.
G. Maintain appropriate confidentiality and reporting pertaining to incidents and/or student information, consulting up with appropriate supervisor(s) as necessary and required.
V. Administrative and Availability
A. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled weekly staff meetings.
B. Meet with supervisor on a regular basis to discuss building/residential/residential assistant issues, performance issues and personal concerns.
C. Attend and participate in all training activities including Fall training that will begin two to four weeks prior to hall opening, and Staff Development Sessions. These training dates are non-negotiable and include both day and evening workshops. No other plans may be made during these days.
D. Assist with the opening/closing of the residence halls at the beginning/end of the year and for all break periods, and conduct required health and safety inspections. For residence hall closings.
E. Complete routine paperwork (i.e., program request forms, room/common area condition reports, duty reports, maintenance reports, occupancy checks, incident report forms, etc.) accurately and on time.
F. Respond effectively to and manage emergency/crisis situations.
F. Provide after-hour emergency on-call duty support to resident assistant staff by participating in a rotating schedule that is shared with three to four other people.
G. Assumes duty approximately 6 to 7 weekdays and 3 to 4 weekend days per month, and as assigned by supervisor. Responds to inquiries and emergencies from residents, University police, and other University units as directed. Must be accessible and physically able to respond to situations at all times when on duty. Will be required to serve on duty during semester breaks.
H. Performs periodic walk-throughs and responds to maintenance and custodial needs on a routine basis so as to maintain a quality physical environment.
I. Work the front desk when needed. Check-in mail and packages regularly. Check and respond to RCC email regularly.
J. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements to apply:
- Enrolled full-time as a CSUB graduate student* for the 2023-2024 academic year
- Have and maintain a 3.3 GPA or higher
- *undergraduate students that have worked as Resident Assistants for 2 years may be considered
Job Requirements:
- Must work 20 hours a week
- Must have a commitment to serving CSUB students
- Previous student leadership experience required
- Must have an ability to multitask, prioritize and successfully navigate ambiguity
- Self-directed professional with strong interpersonal, problem solving and customer service skills
- Must be a good academic role model and have and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Must have good listening skills, understand and overcome obstacles
- Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor– but still be able to have fun at work
- Must have demonstrated leadership skills in regards to working with other students
- Must be willing to live in student housing upon appointment
Live-on Compensation:
$15.50 per hour
1 single room, Assigned to a suite that is shared with another staff member of the same gender.
