Bilingual Chinese/English Academic Specialist: Humanities

What do we do?
Co-founded by Harvard graduates, Sinica Education provides online educational services to bilingual international students in middle school, high school, and college. Our services include online accredited courses, academic counseling, one-on-one tutoring, and other academic support and guidance to ensure our students’ academic success.
 
Sinica Education is looking for a full-time academic specialist to help our students to navigate through an unfamiliar schooling system to achieve academic success. This is a full-time, on-site position in our West LA office. We provide H1B sponsorship for this position. 
 
As an academic specialist, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Building impactful relationships with students, to support them through their academic journey
  • Tutoring students to improve their academic performance on 2-3 of the subjects listed below.
  • Tracking and managing students’ academic progress, engagement, tutoring hours, and other related tasks
  • Offering feedback on progress to students’ parent/guardian and teachers where appropriate
  • Advocating for student needs and interests by consistently communicating with all involved parties
 
The ideal candidate would be able to teach 3+subjects up to AP/lower college level:
  • Literature 
  • World History
  • US History 
  • Art History
  • European History
  • Political Science
  • Government
  • Religion
  • French/Spanish 
  • Music Theory
  • Finance 
  • Accounting 
  • Micro/Macroeconomics 
  • And other high school level subjects 


What are the required qualifications?
  • MUST hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a top university. Bachelor’s degree must be completed prior to applying.
  • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
  • In-depth knowledge content knowledge and understanding of 2-3 subjects listed above
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  • A real passion for equitable education and a desire to work with international students with diverse identities, cultural backgrounds, and academic proficiency
 
What are other desirable qualifications?
  • Current MA, PhD or EdD candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Native or near-native (high) proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English
  • Classroom teaching experience at the high school or college level
  • One-on-one tutoring experience with high school or college students
  • Experience with online learning platforms
