The TRIO Student Support Services program provides holistic support and motivation to support students through graduation. The goals of TRIO SSS are to increase retention, achieve good academic standing each semester, and successfully graduate participants to earn their post-secondary degrees. Participants will receive one-on-one support and small-group assistance designed to meet their specific needs to graduate from Loyola.
Located within the Student Success Center on the 2nd Floor of Monroe Library.
Job Duration: The TRIO Peer Mentor position is 20 hours per week for the full calendar year including the summer months.

Job Description:
The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Mentor will work closely with the TRIO SSS Director and SSS Project Advisors to serve as a resource and a guide to our TRIO Participants throughout the year. Peer Mentors provide all program participants regular individual support, motivation, and guidance regarding SSS action plans and learning outcomes. Our Peer Mentors engage in meaningful discussions, offer a listening ear, and act as a sounding board in a non-judgmental environment in order to connect and form strong relationships, share knowledge, and work together with our TRIO Participants to succeed in college as a united TRIO force. Additionally, Peer Mentors consistently model a collaborative and inclusive environment and lay a foundation for success in college.
Primary duties include:
- Conducting monthly 1:1 or group meetings with First Year TRIO Participants
- Maintaining regular contact with Mentees and TRIO Participants by email, GroupMe, and/or text messaging
- Maintain accurate meeting notes
- Promoting campus and TRIO Events, which can include attending said events with TRIO Participants
- Connecting TRIO Participants and Mentees with campus resources and opportunities
- Planning one TRIO Event from start to finish each semester
- Attend weekly meetings with fellow peer mentors and supervisor
- Assist with the preparation of TRIO Workshops and presentations
- Assist with recruitment efforts for prospects of the TRIO SSS grant program
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Training:
- Training to occur in August prior to the start of the fall semester
Qualifications:
- Rising or Current Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Standing
- Current TRIO Participant or TRIO Eligible (first-generation, low-income, and/or disabled) strongly preferred
- At least 2.5 Overall GPA
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- A demonstrated ability to work empathetically, compassionately, and effectively as a team member and a leader
- Interest and ability to provide assistance with Technology such as Canvas, LORA, student Email, text messaging systems, and Google
- Ability to work with a diverse range of students and staff
- Sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body and respect student privacy
- Preference will be given to students who do not work more than ten hours a week elsewhere
