POSITION SUMMARY
Performs manual work of limited complexity utilizing manual and/or mechanized/power tools and/or equipment; may assist in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled tasks.

Salary: $22.63 per hour. 
Union: This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Union Bid Form: None required. Your application for this position will serve as your Union Bid Form.

General Prerequisites:
General prerequisites are established for all positions within the City of Pittsburgh, local government.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS
If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

The Department of Public Works has tentatively scheduled assessments and interviews for Saturday, June 24, 2023. 
POSITION DUTIES
  • Participates in various projects or tasks requiring physical labor (e.g., street resurfacing, digging ditches, pruning shrubs, installing playground equipment, cutting grass, picking litter, emptying litter receptacles, weed control, leaf collection/removal).
  • Cleans streets, gutters, sewers and catch basins.
  • Loads and unloads materials, supplies, equipment, trash and other debris; may use hand pallet or forklift.
  • May be required to verify the materials, supplies, equipment, etc. received by checking shipping and/or packaging documents, and to inspect items for any shipping damage.
  • Salts streets, sidewalks, steps and removes snow.
  • Assist craft/trades personnel in moving materials, setting forms, mixing cement, etc.
  • Performs minor repairs on playgrounds, streets, sidewalks, stairs, sewer, etc.
  • Performs simple construction jobs (e.g., barricades, fences, etc).
  • Cleans buildings, offices, restrooms, shelters and the surrounding grounds.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, equipment and pumps, sewer rodders, power mowers, etc.
  • May operate fueling stations (e.g., refuels City vehicles, completes and maintains records of gasoline, oil and other fluids used).
  • May maintain fueling stations (e.g., keeps area free from debris, moves trash barrels, etc.).
  • May drive trucks of one ton or less in daily routine.
  • May be required to assemble equipment or goods received.
  • May assist in locating mains and service lines and in backfilling excavations.
  • May work shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment (e.g., power saws, compressors, etc).
  • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
