General Engineer

Manages all aspects of the GC-859 Nuclear Fuel Survey which is a data collection related to permanently discharged commercial spent nuclear fuel from facilities covered by the Standard Contract for the Disposal and/or High-Level Radioactive Waste (10 CFR 961) ("Standard Contract") entered pursuant to the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, as amended ("NWPA") including the following duties:
  • Facilitates timely submission of survey clearance by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act, including the technical supporting statement and estimate of burden.
  • Analyses of feedback from stakeholders based on the prior survey collection and works with the nuclear industry and government stakeholders to identify and implement form content and collection process improvements.
  • Defines specifications and scope of activities to be performed by the primary support contractor and manages the scope being performed by these engineering and scientific experts. Reviews and approves final technical reports.
  • Analyzes the data provided by the survey respondents and facilitates resolution of data issues or inconsistencies. Analyzes other situations, identifies any issues, probes cause, and recommends courses of action or solutions.

Creates required DOE reports related to the data collection, such as the Acceptance Priority Ranking, and other analyses. Reviews or provides input to papers, reports, and other documents related to commercial spent nuclear fuel.

Performs other engineering analyses related to spent nuclear fuel topics, as needed.

Interacts with engineering and scientific experts from engineering contractors, other Departmental offices, and counterpart engineers and scientists from the nuclear utility industry.
