Program Support Specialist

Vision: We seek a world free from violence and the threat of violence.

Mission: We champion nonviolence as the foundation for effective programs and actions to promote the dignity of every human being.

Through our programs, FNVW demonstrates the transformational power of nonviolence at personal, community and institutional levels:

Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) provides experiential conflict resolution workshops in prisons, jails and communities. AVP empowers people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, building and enhancing of community, cooperation, and trust.

People Camp is a week-long intergenerational experience of cooperation, community living, peacemaking, and the exploration of ideas and issues. This is a summer camp experience for the whole family and for anyone who enjoys warm, supportive community, challenging workshops and lots of recreation in a camp setting.

Everyday Nonviolence is our podcast that highlights people using nonviolence to transform themselves and the world around them. Their stories deepen our understanding of the impact of violence and the many ways nonviolence can be used for healing and social change.

Advocacy and Outreach initiatives include hosting community dialogues and workshops on topics such as police reform and public safety. We also build power for social change through relational organizing and by working in coalition with other groups.

Position: Program Support Specialist
This dynamic role will support the following FNVW programs: Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) and our Advocacy and Outreach Initiatives.

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) empowers people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, building and enhancing of community, cooperation and trust. AVP offers a series of three experiential conflict transformation workshops in the community and in correctional facilities. We are in the process of developing a youth-focused component to our AVP program.

Advocacy and Outreach Initiatives include hosting community dialogues and workshops on topics such as police reform and public safety. FNVW also builds our collective power for social change through relational organizing and by working in coalition with other groups.
A fellow in this role will have the opportunity to work with incarcerated individuals, volunteers, community members, partner organizations, and the Department of Corrections.

Tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Program planning and development
  • Supporting existing volunteers
  • Community outreach
  • Creating and strengthening partnerships
  • Assessing funding opportunities

This role is a good fit for people who want to learn more about organizational management, program development/implementation, volunteer engagement, community peacebuilding, violence prevention, and social change. Previous experience in any of these areas would be beneficial but not required. We are looking for someone who is committed to nonviolence and has the skills to organize people and projects.

Hours/Schedule
Schedule is flexible. Many of the duties would need to occur during normal 9am-5pm business hours, with the need to occasionally flex those hours to accommodate evening or weekend meetings with volunteers and community members.

Location
FNVW currently uses a hybrid work model for our staff. Approximately 50% of the work week is spent on-site at our office location or attending community events.
