Job Description

P&G is the largest consumer packaged goods company in the world. We have operations in over 75 countries, with 65 trusted brands that improve lives for 5 billion consumers worldwide. This brings many advantages, including the opportunity for our employees to enjoy a diverse and rewarding lifelong career filled with new and exciting challenges.

Are you looking for a position that offers a rewarding lifelong career filled with new and exciting challenges? P&G is looking for a Ph.D. Intern - Baby Wipes.

Ph.D. Intern - Baby Wipes

Baby Wipes are comprised of an aqueous formulation (lotion) applied to fibrous non-woven substrate and are susceptible to contamination with damaging bacteria, yeast, and mold. To ensure the product is safe for consumers throughout its shelf life, a preservation system is added to the lotion. This preservation system is safe and reliable; however, substrate, packaging and lotion changes have the potential to decrease lotion preservation efficacy due to undesired chemical interactions between lotion and nonwoven fibers that render the preservative unavailable.

The current development approach to new preservation chemistries and products relies on repetitive empirical testing which is time-consuming and expensive. Thus, we are gathering information about the mechanism behind the small molecule – fiber interactions that can unexpectedly impact preservation efficacy from various modeling and experimental approaches. The plan is to create an overarching model that combines all the information and learnings collected to predict lotion-fiber interaction that can be integrated with our internal micro prediction tool, which will greatly reduce the need for empirical testing and accelerate wipe innovation.

This internship assignment will seek to accomplish the following:

    * Understand the model objectives and the physical phenomena behind the collected multi-source data. Clean and process numerical data, simulation trajectory data, experiment images and profile data into a model-ready format.
    * Leverage AI algorithms (Neural Nets, Autoencoders, etc.) to combine the learnings from all the prepared data in a physically meaningful way. Train and test the various options and develop the most effective model algorithm to predict lotion-substrate interactions.
    * Integrate the developed lotion-substrate interaction model with existing micro prediction tool to assess the risk profile of potential micro failures.
    * Document clearly the developed model algorithms.

Job Qualifications
    * Ph.D. candidate in Data Science or related area
    * Proficiency in python programming and training/building AI algorithms such as NN/CNN, Autoencoders, etc.
    * Strong communication skills to translate technical challenges and present ideas & insights to deliver the solution
