A day in the life:
·      Plan, prioritize, schedule and assign work activities based on availability of material, equipment and staff resources.
·      Provide guidance to employees to resolve work-related issues and performance.
·      Remove debris, clean walkways, clean drains and perform routine maintenance to bridges.
·      Maintain, repair and replace bridge bearings and expansion joints.
·      Work with the region bridge inspector.
·      Read, interpret and oversee plans, specifications and manufacturer’s instructions.
·      Help make decisions with the transportation maintenance manager to create short- and long-term plans for crews.
·      Review, prepare and sign a variety of reports, performance measures and records.
·      Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment depending on the project.
·      Must be able to move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.
·      May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.
·      Must be able to obtain crane/boom truck certification within six months of hire.
·      Must be able to obtain structural welding certification within discussed time frame.

What we need:
Three years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge or landscape.

Special qualifications:
This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 885 Airport Road SE Building W, Salem, Oregon, 97301, for emergency call-outs.
 
Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, and no air brake restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire one within six months of hire (ODOT will cover training and costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
