Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Database management, (Data Input, Generate Reports, Inventory)
  • rudimentary solution/reagent preparation
  • mouse room work
  • rudimentary PCR, RTPCR, DNA isolation
  • RNA isolation
  • CDNA production
  • necropsy
  • sequencing; small laboratory experiments driven by existing skills sets and experience in this laboratory.

Qualifications:
  • Sophomore level student required
  • Life Science or Chemistry major required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to use Excel, Power Point, One Note and other software programs as needed. 

Learning Opportunities: The primary interest of the laboratory is Mitochondrial Dysfunction and its role in metabolic disease. (Principal organisms studied are Fruit Fly, Mouse, Human)

Through their work in this position, students will become acquainted with, develop further understanding of the following:
  • molecular biology
  • understanding of genetics
  • lab book/report management
  • murine
  • biology translation to human biology.
  • Additional exposure to graduate students, post-doctoral candidates, principal investigators and over all academic science.

The Laboratory Assistant II in this lab, which is directed by a Physician and Scientist, is a wonderful opportunity for any student considering applying to graduate school or medical school.
