Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer provides engineering support for Vestas Americas Construction, Service, and Global Engineering/R&D. This position performs troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and solution design to resolve field anomalies and develop improvements related to electrical systems of wind turbines. The Electrical Engineer acts as a technical interface between the local region and global technical functions

Responsibilities:
·        Understand product technology around generators, transformers, switchgears, electrical testing and general electrical concepts within a limited area of subject matter expertise, and provide technical guidance to other engineers within the region
·        Respond to technical inquiries from construction, service, technical sales, and external customers, deliver responses on time and with the required level of quality
·        Work within multi-discipline teams to resolve complex electrical systems anomalies, from root cause analysis through development of cost-effective, safe technical solutions. May guide segments of the team and project scope. Prepare formal RCA reports and improvement documentation
·        Perform innovative component improvement projects to optimize the safety, performance, and operational cost of electrical systems and components for wind turbine generators
·        Facilitate globalization of locally developed solutions and improvements
·        Work effectively to eliminate risks to Quality, Health and Safety, and Environment
·        Develop and review region-specific and global technical documentation, specifications, and drawings in support of electrical systems
·        Provide technical guidance in construction-related issues regarding turbine installation
·        Ensure compliance of all work with accepted industry standards and electrical codes such as IEEE, IEC, UL, CSA, NFPA, etc., as well as regulatory organizations including NERC, FERC, and local ISO and utility requirements
·        Train and mentor regional colleagues within limited area(s) of subject matter expertise
·        Understand customer and operational needs and use knowledge to develop and promote technical solutions
·        May participate in industry groups supporting wind technology
 
Essential Functions:

·        Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SAP)



Education, Training, and Skills Required:
·        Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with preferred emphasis on power systems, power generation, and controls, including interdisciplinary technical experience
·     Preferably experience as an Electrical Engineer, ideally 1 year of experience in Wind Turbine Generators
·        Good aptitude with electrical engineering fundamentals: motors and generators, power distribution and transmission, electrical safety, and basic electrical theory
·        Solid project management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects and priorities
·        Experience in systematized problem-solving methodology (8D, DMAIC, etc.)
·        Good business understanding from exposure to customers in either sales or service
·        Ability to work internationally with large complex customers to support the business
·        Demonstrated flexibility working in a dynamic and changing organization
·        Strong computer skills, specifically MS office products. Some proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD – Autocad and Creo Parametric preferred
·        Travel required as an essential element of job: 15%, including international travel


Physical Demands
While performing the tasks of this job, the employee is required to have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) weight up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to climb stairs and wind turbine ladders over 100 meters is required. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Requires visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate office equipment and read computer screen-generated information. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
