Food Science Quality Assurance Summer Internship

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Department has an opening for a Food Safety Quality Assurance Technical Intern. This position is located in Dublin, California.
 
Position Purpose
In this role you will combine technical education with applied work experience. You will contribute to actual projects, learn from accomplished mentors, and gain industry knowledge that you can call upon for years to come. This position is responsible for supporting our private label supplier and product compliance to company food safety and quality standards. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Quality Assurance.
 
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • As part of the company onboarding process, perform new supplier risk assessments in accordance with Albertson’s Companies minimum supplier requirements.
  • Review Consumer Complaint Data and assist with product quality evaluations to support complaint reduction and product quality improvements.
  • Review and evaluate supplier root cause and corrective actions to address out of specification product issues. 
  • Create and communicate reports on quality metrics to support business needs.
  • Facilitate supplier verification program to support label claim compliance (e.g., Supplier pesticide analysis to support organic label claim on private label product).
 
Qualifications:
  • Completion of or working towards Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Microbiology, Nutrition, or related scientific field.
  • Ability to analyze process capability data to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Knowledge of food safety, product quality programs, preventive QC methods, HACCP/PCQI principles, Good Manufacturing Practices, environmental pathogen monitoring, allergen control and manufacturing process controls
  • Prioritize efforts based on risk, importance, and urgency. Ability to self-manage complex and meet deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Eager to take on complex challenges and demonstrate tenacity and perseverance.
  • Able to navigate an ambiguous environment and demonstrates strong interpersonal and organization skills.
  • A real-world problem solver with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, including strong management ability in a team-based culture.
  • Able to work 10-12 weeks consecutively during the summer.
  • Authorized to work in the US.

Physical Environment:
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in various environments including refrigerated/frozen facilities.
  • Sits, stands, or walks for extended periods of time.
  • Bending, stooping, and twisting are required periodically.
  • Workday is fast paced.
  • Uses calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday.
