MFA Residency Assistant
Pay: SPU’s minimum wage – $18.69/hour
Employment start date: August 1, 2023
Employment end date: August 20, 2023
You will work on Seattle Pacific University’s campus beginning Tuesday, August 1 through Sunday, August 13, with optional work opportunities available the following week.
Job Description:
The Residency Assistant provides support to the Director, Assistant Director, and Program Coordinator, prior to, during, and following the August 2023 MFA in Creative Writing program residency.
Required Availability
- Duration of the residency and up to a few days before and after the residency (depending on need)
- Participate in residency and motorpool training as needed
- Assist with related duties before and after the residency
General Responsibilities before and during the Residency
- Assist with residency preparations
- Set up registration table
- Prepare lodging and meeting spaces for group event
- Set up, organize, and replenish coffee, snack, and book tables
- Acquire training on SPU vans to assist with residency driving as needed
- Pack and organize residency food and supply containers
- Provide assistance to faculty and students as needed throughout the residency
- Report directly to the PC and attend daily staff meetings
- Assist with overseeing all residency events
Additional Information
- The program will provide lodging and meals throughout the residency
- Hours vary from day-to-day, depending on the program’s needs
- The Residency Assistant is welcome to attend residency events such Art & Faith seminars and guest lectures.
Required Qualifications
- SPU student
- Valid driver’s license

- Responsible and has ability to work independently with little direct supervision
- Takes initiative, works collaboratively, and communicates proactively
- Socially adaptable and outgoing
- Proficient with technology
- Flexible (able to handle sudden changes in scheduling and meeting unexpected needs)
- Interest in the writing and faith community that comprises the SPU MFA Program
