Position Description: Office Ambassador (Internship Eligible)
Pay rate: $12/hour

Have you completed an internship? Did you take a CBL class that had a positive effect on you? Do you think on-campus jobs are the best? If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, you might be the person we’re looking for! The Community & Business Engagement (CBE) Office is seeking a UW-Parkside student to serve as a CBE Office Ambassador to help promote opportunities for students to put their learning in action.
 
The CBE Office Ambassador will be responsible for:
 
  • Representing the CBE office at campus events– The CBE Ambassador will assist with events (e.g. new student orientation, admitted student day, involvement fair, career and internship fair, etc.) by providing information about the services of our office and answering questions. 
  • Assisting with presentations to classes, student orgs, etc. – The CBE Ambassador will be responsible for initiating outreach to student clubs and organizations to request opportunities to share information. The CBE Ambassador will also assist with classroom presentations, such as facilitating the CBL student survey and promotion of the Community Engagement Certificate.
  • Highlighting student success stories– The CBE Ambassador will encourage students to share their learning in action stories with the CBE Office. The Ambassador may schedule interviews with students who have completed an internship, community-based learning (CBL) course or on-campus job to write a short story highlighting their experience
  • Providing administrative support: Support the Student Success and Learning Commons by working at the front desk assisting students with scheduling appointments, checking in students, answering phone calls, and helping with basic office tasks

This position has the potential to be offered as an internship for the right student, particularly if the student is interested in earning academic credit for their internship.

CBE is seeking candidates who intend to commit to this role from Fall 2023-Spring 2024 and potentially beyond.
 
Required Qualifications 
  • Enthusiasm for experiential learning, such as internships, CBL and/or campus employment
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse pool of faculty and students 
  • Ability to present information clearly through written communication and oral presentations
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft 365, such as Word, Outlook, and Teams 
  • Willingness to participate in relevant trainings
 
Additional Qualifications 
  • Student must be a current undergraduate or graduate student attending the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be able to collaborate with other staff members, as well as work independently 
  • Strong customer service orientation: able to exercise good judgement 
  • Dependable and punctual 

High Impact Practice Statement: By incorporating classroom learning into hands-on work experience as well as providing supervision and coaching, students gain necessary tools to grow and contribute as professionals.

Communication:
  • Share accurate information on CBE programs through presentations and Q&A sessions
  • Conduct interviews with fellow students in a manner that makes participants feel comfortable sharing their stories, asking follow-up questions as needed to solicit relevant information
  • Write engaging stories based on informational interviews

  • Work as part of the Student Success and Learning Commons front desk staff to greet guests, answer questions and respond to student and staff requests in a timely manner

  • Use Microsoft Office programs to send emails, write stories, schedule calendar appointments, etc.
