2023-24 Volunteer Buffalo Field Patrol Crew Member
Volunteer with the Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) this winter to protect the Buffalo Herds of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and Yellowstone National Park!
Field Season Volunteers run Field Patrols to observe and protect Buffalo during their migration from Yellowstone National Park to lower elevations in native habitat in the surrounding area to sustainably graze during the winter months and calve in their traditional calving grounds.
During our Field Season, we conduct daily patrols to monitor Buffalo Migration corridors, collect data, and provide Outreach and Media for any threats to the population.
You will be part of a team that observes and records Buffalo movements on foot, in hiking boots, on cross-country skis, and in Field Patrol Vehicles. You will participate in facilitating safe Highway crossings for the Buffalo and be an active participant in observing any State and Federal Agency Management actions including hunting activities.
Working alongside Field Patrol Crew Leaders, Interns, and Coordinators, Volunteers are first to see the migration of the Buffalo and the ones that are always motivated to go above and beyond: helping with Maintenance Projects and Gear Repair at the Lodge, prepping with the Cook in the Kitchen, and Snow-Shoveling (and making a Snowball or Two)!

Volunteer Field Season Availability: 11/15/23 - 5/31/24
We ask for a two-week commitment, although, encourage Volunteers that can dedicate a Field Season to protecting the Buffalo Herds of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!
Volunteers will be provided free bunk-style/Co-op housing in our Lodge, Meals, Internet, Laundry, and any necessary gear.
Free time to check out Cross-Country Ski Trails, Snow-shoe, or for Wildlife Photography!
