Illinois State Representative Summer Internship Program

Job Description:

If you are a college student interested in working in public service and seeing how an
elected official’s office impacts its local community, Representative Jennifer
Gong-Gershowitz is seeking individuals to fill paid internships at her District office in
Glenview. The Intern will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about constituent services,
community outreach and the development of legislation.

The District office serves as the Representative’s main contact point for constituent
services. Some of the services covered by the District office on behalf of our constituents
include; veteran’s affairs, unemployment, Medicaid, taxes and dealing with various other
State agencies. The District office also listens to constituents' concerns regarding
legislation, assists constituents in locating resources, attends events within the district and
handles community outreach programs.

Job Duties:

The District Intern will work with the Chief of Staff and Outreach Director to ensure
effective running of the District office. The Intern will be performing an array of tasks in
support of staff. This will include answering phones, distributing mail, greeting visitors,
updating databases, researching legislation, staffing the Representative at local events,
attending community office hours, attending meetings on behalf of the office as well as
other tasks that may come up.

The District Intern must be able to effectively communicate, be able to work closely with a
small team, be comfortable speaking with constituents in person and over the phone and
be passionate for public service.

Qualifications:
● Be a high school senior, undergraduate or recent college graduate
● Be able to work approximately 15-20 hours per week
● Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Be interested in public service
● Candidates with a connection to the 17th District would be given additional
consideration

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 15-20 hours per week ($17/hour), beginning
June 1st through August.
