Health Strategy Director

The Health Strategy Director provides leadership and expertise to advance community engagement, systems improvement, and policy strategies that further the mission and goals of the Milwaukee Health Department (MHD).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Strategy and Engagement
  • Lead and direct designated community teams and coalitions; coordinate all activities, staff, and volunteers associated with the projects.
  • Develop and implement timelines and schedules for departmental planning and assessment processes that assure active involvement of staff and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the City of Milwaukee’s Community Health Assessment, MKE Elevate – MHD’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and the departmental strategic plan.
  • Use best practice methodologies in a manner consistent with national public health accreditation standards in all assessment and planning activities.

Systems Improvement and Policy
  • Manage, coordinate, evaluate, and support department-wide activities that result in improvements to existing structures and systems.
  • Facilitate change and improvement in the organization and public health practices.
  • Provide support to departmental divisions with identifying, developing, and advancing policy interventions to improve public health, including the social determinants of health.
  • Provide analyses of public health policies with particular emphasis on the social determinants of health and achieving greater health equity.

Partnership and Resource Development
  • Collaborate with other public health professionals to develop local and regional strategies to improve the health of Milwaukee and to advance health equity.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with community-based organizations and academic institutions to maximize public health impact.
  • Monitor local, state, and federal grant opportunities, and evaluate proposals for alignment with the MHD’s mission.
  • Write proposals and grant applications to foundations, corporations, and governmental agencies; maintain relationships with foundation and corporate donors.

Supervision and Project Management
  • Manage, direct, and supervise multiple staff to ensure work products are of high quality and completed in a timely manner.
  • Directly supervise Health Strategy team members, including delegating assignments, providing guidance, reviewing work products, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, health administration, statistics or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Five years of professional experience in public health policy or public health programming performing duties related to the essential functions outlined above.
  3. Valid driver's license and access to a properly insured vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment (mileage reimbursement provided pursuant to Section 350-183 of the Milwaukee Code).  

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered

CURRENT SALARY


The current salary range (1GX) in $80,426-$96,768 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $82,839-$99,671 annually. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.
