Philanthropy Intern - Mission University, Nonprofit Charitable Foundation
This is a paid, virtual (remote) internship for any college student whose experience and/or interests align with charitable Philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, and humanitarian outreach to support participants wishing to fundraise to serve on an international humanitarian mission to an under-resourced community. The work of this internship is central to the core mission of the Mission University and Foundation. This position may be extended if desired, and we are pleased to work with international students needing CPT/OPT eligible employment.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Our intern will support the staff by providing a wide range of administrative, organizational, and research support, including helping volunteers to fundraise, as well as helping to define fundraising strategy, special projects management, and preparing correspondence.
REPORTING AND EVALUATION
This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and performance review will be conducted virtually (using teleconference sessions) bi-monthly.
STRUCTURE AND PAY:
Students are consultant interns and have the option to be part-time during the summer and/or school year (~10 hours per week). Fully remote, flexible hours, minimum hours and salary are paid in accordance with state and federal employment policy and the option for bonus-eligibility based on performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES (each area below is weighted 10% for performance review)
• Proactively monitor and manage communications with potential grantees.
• Gather resources and create digital records for grantees.
• Work independently and within a team on special and ongoing projects.
• Act as a project manager for special projects which may include: planning and coordinating presentations, developing visuals, disseminating information, and organizing events.
• Draft business correspondence, which may include letters, memos, speeches and email.
• Maintain an organized system of tracking, monitoring and prioritizing tasks and projects.
• Answer and/or field telephone calls and communications, and respond as appropriate.
• Handle confidential and non-routine information with sensitivity.
• Preparing for and conducting virtual/teleconference meetings.
• Assisting with research within the field and compiling reports.
CHARACTERISTICS
• Nonprofit experience preferred, preferably in a fast-paced organization with demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, take initiative, exercise discretion, and apply sound judgment.
• Must be flexible, highly organized and have a proven ability to juggle multiple and competing tasks and demands, collaborating with team members and working independently.
• High level of interpersonal skills and discretion to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy in establishing and maintaining strong relationships.
• Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with impeccable follow-up and attention to detail; resourcefulness to research and problem solve
• Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with diverse people and communities.

• Our intern will be performing in a highly visible role and must reflect the demeanor, level of respect, professionalism, positive attitude and instincts necessary to appropriately represent the Foundation.
REQUIREMENTS
• 0-1 years of experience (or desire to learn) nonprofit organizations, business administration, charitable philanthropy
• Actively enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Organization Management or related field, or an interest in exploring these industries.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with limited direction.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish credibility and respect with a broad range of business partners.
• Solid work ethic and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to handle confidential recruitment and personnel documents.
• Highly proficient with MS Office software.
• Ability to commit 10 to 20 hours per week during the school year and, if desired, full time hours per week during the summer.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer sponsorship.
